International women's day

Kia ora,

Today, I will be talking about what we did during Wananga. Today is March 8, which means we will be celebrating International women's day. we are acknowledging the tech women and their innovations, sports equality for women, educating the women’s health decisions, workplaces and women’s creativity.

You all know about the woman's suffrage movements that was lead by Kate Sheppard. I will be going to share some facts about the woman's suffrage. I've researched information about the woman's suffrage, and I'll be giving you some facts:

International women's day/Women's suffrage movement: 

Before the protests happened, mans were the only gender that were allowed to vote, women were forbidden to vote whenever there were elections. Back in the days, women were known as wives, sisters, daughters and mothers while men were known as heroes, leaders, entrepreneurs and scientists. There was one woman who stood up for what is right and changed the men’s perspective towards women. Met Kate Sheppard, she was the leader of the women’s suffrage. They started a movement for this, however, in the end the testimonial appeal assisted with achieving a huge victory. Women’s suffrage movements were extremely important, helpful and effective. Both movements were able to help today’s society. If Kate Sheppard didn’t stand up, women aren't allowed to vote in elections in this society. She showed true leadership, she was also trustworthy and helped her fellow people. Most importantly, she showed resilience, she knew what she had to risk and have the guts to do what she has done, it takes tons of courage to be able to do that. All thanks to Kate Sheppard. 

New Zealand was the first country allowing women the right to vote. It took them 10 years until they received  an equal suffrage with men. It’s sad to think that back in the days, some people weren’t able to vote for politics because of their gender, age, race, education, wealth and social status.

Drama/Mask/Bully plays

Kia Ora everyone,

I will be talking about the mask we were currently doing in drama. We watched a video about these children who preforms while wearing a mask, we're trying to do the same but we must make our own mask. I've researched and got some ideas about mask I'm doing. I found a good mask that I was trying to do on google.

I watched a video on YouTube on how to do it. The equipment I used are: Hot glue gun, Painting and scissors. The first step I did was sketching it, after I sketched it, I eventually traced it using hot glue to make the shape I wanted. Honestly the hot glue part was when I started struggling. It's so hard to trace it with hot glue, but I managed to trace it anyway (It's just a bit messy). After waiting, I'll used the white painting to colour my mask. It also took a while till it dries. After drying, I'll have to add the elastic on the side. But I'm still currently waiting.

I still wasn't able to put on my mask (I haven't tried it yet), but it's currently looking good.

 Kia ora everyone,

Today I will be updating about what happened on my mask. Apparently, the mask that I was trying to follow failed. The paint made it look weird, I still can wear it an use it but it's uncomfortable. We had to perform with our mask.

We had a group, it includes Rheanne, Talisa and Jasmine. In our play, I was bullying Jasmine, while Rheanne is the girl who helped her, she saw Jasmine while catching the bus, the bus driver is Talisa. The first time we act it failed because our back was facing the front, so we had to retake it. What makes it realistic is that the light and the music, we used white and mix red light, with a dramatic/sad music. 

Today we had to act, we were given a script, 4 people must be in the group. The play is about bully, Stryk, Kuff, Grynd and Boot, these are the bullies. I was Stryk, Cate is the Kuff, Grynd is Rheanne and Boot is Shontai. We practice the script many times. I think we have to work on our facial expression and our voice tone. 

The acting was fun but again, we have many things to work on.

2011 Christchurch Earthquake Heroes

Kia Ora,

Today I will be telling you about the 2011 Christchurch Earthquake Heroes. Christchurch happened to have an earthquake during 2011 which affects many people. As you all know, last week ago on February 22 was the memorial of those people who died and injured in the 2011 Christchurch Earthquake.

We are focusing about the heroes who have helped people during the 2011 earthquake, it doesn't specifically need to be those people who helped in the earthquake, it can also be people who did something around the past year. I researched some facts about those people who were awarded because of something they've done, they totally deserve it.

South Korea

Welcome to my blog, today I will be sharing our learning during Wananga. We had to choose a country and find facts about it, such as their religion, flag, traditions and more. I have chosen South Korea. There's not that much information but I hope you will get the idea. Here it is:

South Korea:

The official name of South Korea is ‘The republic of South Korea (ROK). South Korea’s flag colours are

red, blue, black and white. A white background with a blue and red in the center and 4 black bars in the

corner. South Korea’s National Anthem is called Aegukga, it literally means “song expressing love

towards their country”. South Korea has over 51,269,185 people in 2020, It is ranked 28 in the population

list. The country’s capital city is Seoul. The currency in the country is South Korean won, 1 NZD equals

797.922 South Korean currency.

 They obviously speak Korean language but their alphabet is called Hangul. South Korea is known as

famous for K-drama, K-pop, kimchi, soju (Korea’s Alcohol drink) and skincare products. There are too

many popular places to go and visit in South Korea, like N Seoul Tower, Nami Island, Deoksugung and

tons more. Their national flower is also called Mugunghwa.

Meals:

noodles, vegetables and meats. A portion of the well known Korean dishes incorporate bibimbap, bulgogi

and dakgalbi. The Korean culture depends on pleasantness and regard and this is respect in Korean

social graces. Here are some Korean habits for sharing dinners to other people: Older people are meant

to sit down first at a table.  The people in the table should say “Jal meokkesseumnida”, which means “I

will enjoy the meal”, as a sign of respect. Eat at similar speed to others finding a spot at the table. Bite

your food with your mouth shut and don't make noises while biting. One of the popular foods/meals/dishes

in Korea is Kimchi, Samgyepsal, Instant noodles, Bulgogi, Chimaek and a lot other more. 

Kids that are originally from and born in South Korea are considered as one year older when they are born,

they will turn two years old on the following Lunar New Year. Taekwondo is popular in South Korea, It's

accepted to have been created roughly 2,000 years ago. Red ink is viewed as misfortune in South Korea.

Composing an individual's name with red ink means the individual is dead, or will die soon. Children in

school are taught to learn Korean and English and the most spoken language. Most Korean last names

are: Park, Kim, Lee, Kang and others. Koreans traditional clothes are called Hanbok. They also wear it

whenever they have special occasions such as holidays, weddings and funerals. 

As Japan's province, Korea was under a pitiless Japanese standard for a very long time (1910-1945),

when Koreans battled to save their way of life. During the Japanese standard, the educating of Korean

history and language was not permitted in schools, individuals were approached to embrace Japanese

names and utilize Japanese as their language. After Japan's thrashing in World War II, Koreans tried

to be a free country however were minimally mindful of what they planned to endure straightaway.

Japan was very nearly given up in 1945, and the USSR was progressing ahead through Korea,

pulverising the Japanese armed force when the information on Japan's acquiescence went down and out. The US

Chinese New Year

You all know that Chinese new year was last, last week ago. During Wananga, we had to research information about Chinese new year, so now I will be showing you this presentation that I have made. These information is about what they do during Chinese new year (celebrations, misfortunes, etc).

Pobble

Good morning/afternoon everyone,

 

One of the work we did was pobble. There's a picture that we have to make a story about, but they've already made a story starter, what we have to do is to finish the story. I tried to make the reader curious as possible. I wasn't able to actually add more writings because I'm running out of ideas. In the picture, there is a Crow (bird) with a necklace key on the crow's beak, while standing on the top of a clock. It looks like this: 

This is the story starter: 

 Story starter!

She had been chasing it all day. Now, the crow had it.

Time was ticking. Time was running out. She tiptoed towards the creature, seeing the precious key it held precariously in its sharp, cruel beak. It let out an irritating, throaty cackle, its soot-black wings ruffling gently as it manoeuvred itself on top of the clock; it was ready to take flight.

Knowing she might only have a few seconds before her opportunity disappeared, she took another cautious step forward. Time seemed to slow, her body tingled in excitement and her heart thudded in her chest. It was now or never…

Can you continue the story?

She slowly and quietly attempted to snatch the key sneakingly, but immediately failed. The crow glared at her, as she felt shivering down her spine. 

The crow POV (point of view): 

I have taken the key, she was so desperate and I like seeing her suffer. 

Backstory: She used to hunt birds, and she accidentally killed my sister, I wanted to take revenge. I am not just a normal crow, I am one of those powerful and mysterious beings. I cursed her for 1 year. I let her have exactly 1 year to be able to find the partner of the key she had around her neck. She looked tired, and wasn’t able to concentrate. But she took a stick she found on the ground, she was about to hit me- AAHHH! I rushly took action to avoid getting hit by that stick, I flew up and went above the trees. The necklace- the necklace is gone! I looked down, it’s on her hand. Ugh, I’ll be back to take revenge, again. 

The girl POV (point of view):

I’m shivering, I need to take the key back immediately. I checked my watch on my wrist, ‘No!’ I shouted, 50 minutes- 50 more minutes till I- I- I disappear. I titled my head at the crow, my life depends on this key, I have to get it as soon as possible. I took time to think for a minute. I wouldn’t want to keep on chasing the crow. I titled my head towards the crow, I frowned thinking I wouldn’t be able to get it and would disappear while looking down at the ground. I suddenly saw a stick, a long thick stick. An Idea popped up on my head. I rushily grabbed the stick and was about to carefully hit the necklace so it would fall without hitting the crow. I took my shot, and it was an unexpected success. The crow went across above my head, heading towards the tree next to me, leaving the necklace on the rusty floor next to the clock. I heavily sighed and a smile creeped onto my face. I ran towards the necklace, and slowly held it to my hands, ‘Finally!’, I was extremely enthusiastic. I connected the key to my necklace hanging on my neck. ‘Acckk!’-

Heroes

Kia ora everyone,

It's been 2 weeks since the school started, everything happened so fast. Today, I will be showing you what we have been working on during Hurumanu 1.

We had to choose one hero that changed one or more particular country, or we could also choose someone that has done something to us, we could consider it as a hero. Hero's doesn't wear mask or costume all the time. Some might be out there doing something for others and doesn't get recognise. 

The hero that I picked was Kate Sheppard. She was one of the leaders of Women's suffrage petition. I consider her as a hero because now, women's has the right to vote on elections and politics stuff. She has shown: commitment, leadership, resilience, courageous, role model, inspiring, respectful, kind, enthusiastic and Independent.
