Mentos and Coke (Science)

Hello everyobdy,

Today is an another science experiment. As usual, I'll be writing the method for this experiment.

Aim: I want to find out what happens when you drop a Mentos into Coke.

Research: Find a simple video of a mentos and coke experiment and an extreme video of mentos and coke.

Method:

Equipment:

  • Coke, Coke no sugar, Sprite
  • Mint Mentos
  • Detergent - makes the bubble stop
  •  Beakers
  • Safety glasses
  • Measuring cylinder

Instructions:

  1. Get your equipment ready.
  2. Put on your safety glasses.
  3. Pour 30ml of coke into a measuring cylinder.
  4. Measure 10ml of detergent from a small measuring cylinder then add it with the main measuring cylinder.
  5. Add one mentos inside the measuring cylinder with the coke.
  6. Repeat this three times with coke, coke no sugar and sprite.

Results:

Hur3 Shaping Up

Good day everyone,

Today I will be talking about everything we did during shaping up. We have learnt tons of things this term, we were focusing on the topic about geometry.

The first lesson that we did was connecting the geometric Matariki star. Then it goes on with learning about polygons, lines and angles (parallel lines, line, line segment, point, ray, intersecting line, perpendicular lines & midpoint), Angles (Right angle, obtuse, acute), Reflection/Rotation/Translation, lines of symmetry, compass, nets, scales, maps & 3D shapes.

Geometric Matariki stars: We had to draw a 5cm line on the middle of the book and label them beside the lines as A and B.  Then 178-20 dots should be added separately around the book, then we had to connect it until it looks something like a Matariki stars.

Polygons: We were told to go to this website that was shared with us, it's all about polygons. What makes a polygon? It has 2 dimensional shapes, and are made out of straight lines (Curve is not a polygon), the shapes are closed. I also learnt about different types of polygons like Regular and irregular, concave and convex, simple or complex. We also had to remember the shapes' sides. At the bottom of this website, there are questions relating to what we've learn that we could answer. The last thing we did was drawing random lines on paper and colour the same number of sides.

Lines and Angles: There were exactly 3 activities about lines and angles that should be completed. Before we did any of these, we had to discuss it as a whole. The first and second activity was kind of similar, connecting the names of these different types of line into the line, basically identifying the lines. For activity 3, we had a go to play this game, it's like connect four.

Thank you for reading my blog and I apologise for this late post, goodbye!

Milk Plastic (Science)

Hello everyone,

Today is an another experiment during science. As usual, I'll be writing the method for this experiment.

Aim: I want to find out how to turn milk into plastic.

Science Buddies - Turn Milk Into Plastic

Method

Equipment:

  • Milk
  • pot or a microwavable container
  • white vinegar
  • paper towels
  • Beakers 200ml
  • spoon
  • Mug
  • Bunsen Burner
  • stirring rod
  • filter
  • funnel
  • heat mat
  • gauze mat
  • tripod
  • measuring cylinder
Instructions:
  1. pour 200 mls of water into the beaker
  2. add milk powder into the beaker
  3. Heat the milk over the Bunsen burner until its hot (remember to close the air hole)
  4. Add 20 mls of white vinegar into the measuring cylinder
  5. pour the vinegar onto the hot milk
  6. stir the mixture with a stirring rod
  7. Stack 4 layers of paper towels on a dry surface.
  8. use the funnel and another paper towel to filter the curds
  9. fold the paper towels over the curds to squeeze out the excess liquid.
  10. kneed the curds together to form a ball.
  11. decorate, colour, shape the dough as you like.
