Gold Mining

For today's blog, I'm going to share things that I know about Gold Mining. We are learning to understand our past immigrant community. During Hurumanu one, we have been working on Gold Rush. We had a talked about it.

There are text that we should read relating about Gold Rush, there are also information about gold rush. But the first thing we should do is to brainstorm all of the things we know about gold mining and discrimination before we read the story. 

                                               

 

Gold mining is basically finding gold. They dig underground to find gold, it takes a year to dig down. They use trucks to help them dig and people would spent hours and hours digging to find gold. Gold mine last for atleast about five to 30 years, there are different ways of gold mining. 

Discrimination is basically racism. It's like judging something about them for having what they have and use it against them and make them feel bad.

Hero and Villain Writing

Kia Ora everyone,

Today I will be sharing about what we have been doing during writing. It's the last week of this hurumanu, so we have to rush and finish our writing. 

In the past few weeks, we have been focusing on making a story. A story that has a hero and villain, we can also include a protagonist.  

My story is about a normal girl who has a guy-friend that isn't normal. He has a power, they went into a school trip in the forest. But a girl seems to ruin their friendship. We must write the full story. I mean, writing a full story is hard, specially when you don't have that much time left to finish your story, but in the end it's worth it tho. You get to read your story, what you have done. It took a long time to finish my story, I always had to re-read it back from the top to make sure my writing make sense, it has the punctuation that I need, and to make sure that I use describing words.

Anyway, after writing a story, we have to drawing a setting. A setting in our story is a place. A place for our character, just like in a movie, usually in movies, their settings are in the forest if it's creepy, cities if it's action, and more. Then we have to draw their appearance, appearance for our character. The shape of their faces, their eyes, their eyebrows, their mouths, their hairs and more. We watched a video to get more ideas about our characters. 

My story isn't perfect but I still managed to finish it. But anyway, here is my story: Link

Writing this story was fun because I wrote it on my own, it's from Imagination, and it makes the story more interesting. I also enjoyed drawing this settings and characters because I get to learn more things about drawing, just like a perspective drawings.

5: Appreciation of beauty

I find things beautiful, cool and exciting. Even if others thinks it's not, but for me it is.

I wasn't expecting this to be in my top 5 list because I have a lot of fears, but I guess I have something that I am brave at. 

Last time, I was't confident enough to speak in front of many people, but I stand up for myself and talked in front of people on assembly. And I just realised, that was the most brave thing I've done.

3: Forgiveness

This is really me because I easily forgive, and willing to forgive others. It doesn't take me that long to forgive them. 

2: Hope

I always hope even tho sometimes others think it's impossible, but nothings wrong with hoping.

Just like a celebrity, people wishes and hope to met their idol's a lot. including me, but sometimes i think it's impossible, I still don't lose hope.

1: Gratitude

I do appreciate things, either its small things.

I appreciate my family and friends a lot because I have them, I appreciate stuff that I have.

This strength is important for us to know, so we know what we can do, and what strength we need to improve for ourselves or to achieve.

Speaking my truth

Kia Ora everyone,

Welcome back to my blog. Today is the second day of term 3. Today, I'm going to tell you what we did during drama class (Hurumanu 3).

We went to the auditorium and we all sat on the chair. After sitting, the first instruction was to get one little card in the table. This time, we're playing charades. We all pick one each. One of us gets to act whatever actions they got in the card, and all of us have to guess what action they are doing. Since not all of us gets to act our action from the card, we all went up to the stage and did our actions.

The next game we played was 7 up. We have to make a circle. One person has to say 1, and then pass it to other person to say 2, and then so on. But your not supposed to say 7, instead, say 7 up and pass it to the person infront of you.

The last game we played was called copy circle. Again, we have to make a circle. One person has to go outside. While the people in the circle has to pick one person to be the leader. They have to follow whatever the leader does. The person outside has to go inside the circle and try to guess who the leader is.

I had really fun playing this games. I haven't played this game which means this is new to me.

NZ Research

Welcome back to my blog. In Hurumanu 1, we were researching something about New Zealand back then. 

I researched some interesting places that was build in the 1900's. Researching some interesting facts is fun because you get to learn new things. I was really curious about what happened to the Cave Creek. So then I researched some information about it.

The Aotearoa History

Welcome back to my blog. Today's blog is going to be about The Aotearoa history. In hurumanu 1, we have been watching a video about the Aotearoa history. But this time, we have to blog it. 

Have you ever wonder how the New Zealand war started? Well, I cant put all of the information, but this all what I found.

We watched a video about the Aotearoa history, while the video is playing, we have to write everything what we heard in the video. We have to take notes of what happened on the video. And then we have to write a summary about the video.

Notes:

• British said something to the queen about how Maori take over their lands. And the queen immediately believed them so they teamed up with the British. But little did the queen know, it was all a lie. British people made it up. 
• They fighted because of the land
• In 1862, Te ua became a profit.
• They think someone is spying on them. 
• British try and want to have the Maori’s lands so they can control Maori people. 
• Europeans killed two Maori boys.
• Maori killed a British man that were spying on them.
• Maori fought with other Maori
• A guy said he was eating a human flesh
• They are worried that there will be a serious threat
• British thought that Pai rara supporters that they were against them
• Te Kute attacked British village
• British took a revenge from Te kute for attacking their village
• 3000 people died, and 2000 of those people were Maori
• In 1872, the war stopped
• They were worried about the cultural damage between the two countries. And also between the connection of their lands. 

And here is the summary about the video that I wrote:

Summary:

The war started because of the land. British people want to take the Maori’s land, they also want to control Maori. But Maori didn’t let them take their lands. In 1862, Te ua became profit. He wants Maori to own the land. Te Toku Ware is a new PM leaders. Maori somehow thought that some British people were spying at them. Maori killed some British people because they caught him spying  on them. In 1865 was the battle. They fought because of the land. 1868 was the scariest year for them.

Maori ended up fighting another Maori people. A British guy said he was eating a human flesh to scare the Maori people. When the British attacked the Maori people, Maori found a way on how to trick them. European killed two Maori boys that had no defence. Te Kute attacked the village called Mata piro and 60 people were killed. He attacked Mata Piro. But of course, the British people won’t let them win, so the British people attacked them to take revenge for what Te kute did. British people killed almost  120 people, but Te Kute didn’t die, he escaped from them. 

After that day, Te Kute apologised to those Maori people who were harmed and got involved in what he did. In 1872, the war finally stopped. Maori said it not because the land was taken, it was because after the land was taken from them. Maori weren’t sad just because they lost houses, it’s because of their special connection with the land, for those people who died from the war and because of their cultural damage from both countries.

"Matariki and the six sisters"

Welcome back to my blog. Today's blog is going to be about Matariki.

Do you know what's matariki? If you don't, then let me explain it to you. In the Maori language, Matariki is a star cluster. Matariki shows up in May and June. This is a mark of the beginning of the year. 

Wanna know more facts about Matariki? Here are more facts about it:

What is Matariki:                  

Matariki is a time to set a goal, make a wish and remember those who you love. It’s like a day when you take a break and hang out with our families and friends. 

Facts about Matariki:

There are seven stars in Matariki:

• Pohutukawa
• Tupurangi
• Tupuanuka
• Waiti, Waita
• Waipunarangi
• Ururangi
• Hiwa-i-te rangi

But they found two more.

The matariki celebrations last into at least 3 days. 

Matariki is a Maori new year celebration.

Mata ariki means Eyes of god, and Mata riki means Little eyes.

There are different names of Matariki in other countries. 

There are many stars in Matariki, but there are only 7 visible stars :

• Alcyone – Matariki, eyes of Tāwhirimātea
• Atlas – Tupu-ā-rangi, sky tohunga
• Electra – Waipuna-ā-rangi, sky spring
• Taygeta – Waitī, sweet water
• Pleione – Tupu-ā-nuku, Earth tohunga
• Merope – Ururangi, entry to the heavens
• Maia – Waitā, sprinkle of water

The midnight at 1:00 - 3:00 is the best time to see the matariki stars on June 16 - June 30.

Philippine Independence Day

Welcome back to my blog. Today I am going to talk about Philippine independence day!

Independence day for Filipino people is time for families and take a day off from works and schol to enjoy quality time together! 

We have been celebrating Philippine Independence day for 121 years. I'm going to give some facts about Philippines.

1. The Philippines invented the Jeepney. 

2. The first flag in the Philippines was called "KKK" or some different symbols, just like this:

3. The 8 rays in the Philippines flag in the sun represents: Manila, Cavite, Pampanga, Morong, Laguna, Batangas and Nueva Ecija that involves in the 1896 Philippine revolution against Spain. "KKK" means "Kataas-taasang, Kagalang-galangang, Katipunan ng mga anak ng Bayan" (Supreme and Venerable Association of the children of the nation).

4. The Philippines celebrated the longest Christmas. They started celebrating at the month of September until January. They started decorating in September such as parol (Giant Lanterns). Parol is a shape like a star. It is usually made out of bamboo and papers. Also Filipino attends to Simbang Gabi (Night Mass). They attended when is early morning or midnight mass for 9 days straight leading for Christmas eve.

5. Philippines has 180 languages. Most of the filipino language in the Philippines are: Bikol, Cebuano, Hilagaynon, Ilocano, Kapampangan, Pangasinense, Tagalog and Waray. But the two official language in Philippines is Tagalog and English. 

6. The elements of the filipino flags are Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. The blue at the top means: Peace, truth, justice. The red at the bottom is: Patriotism, valor. The sun in the side means: Unity, freedom, people's democracy's, sovereignty.

 The horizontal is when the blue colour is at the top, it means peace:

5. The three stars in the sides of the Philippines flag stands for: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

6. The mostly food that Filipino people is rice. Rice is very popular in the Philippines, infact, all people eats rice in the Philippines. 

 

7. A Filipino made the karaoke machine. If you don't know, Filipino loves singing, a lot. When there is a occasion such as birthdays, achievement awards, graduations, Christmas and New year, they will never forget about karaoke machine. 

                                          

8. The traditional dance in the Philippines was supposed to be Tinikling. Tinikling is a dance where there are 2 people tapping the bamboo pole's while kneeling down, and one girl and one boy will dance in the middle of the bamboo. But they changed it to Carinosa. It involves a man and a women dancing together. The word Carinosa is from Spanish. They changed the traditional dance into Carinosa because when other people from other country goes to Philippines to dance Tinikling, they won't be able to bring the bamboo from their country to Philippines.

9. Filipino people loves street foods. After school or work, they will always find a street foods while they are walking. One of the most popular Filipino street foods is "Balut". Some people thinks that balut looks weird, but trust me, it's so delicious. Another one of Filipino street food is called "Kwek Kwek".

10. The most popular fast food restaurant in the Philippines is Jolibee and Mang Inasal. Jolibee is like Mc Donald, but they have different taste. Jolibee is a Filipino style of Mc Donald. Mang Inasal is a barbecue fast food restaurant.

Making Biltong (Beef Jerky)

Magandang Umaga everyone!

Welcome back to my blog. Today I'm going to talk about making biltong (Beef Jerky).

During Hurumanu 3, we have been watching this movie called "The Martian", It's all about a man who survived living in Mars. 

We did some experimenter about biltong. First thing we did is we made a copy of a google docs, and then we have to research what will happen to the salt if we add salt in the biltong. We have to research about how to make biltong and the materials/ingredients that we can use to make it. We have to researched about how to make biltong, and to make our own instruction about how to make biltong. 

Here are the things that we need to make it:

Materials:

• Sharp knife
• Non metallic container
• Plastic covered 

Ingredients:

• 2.5 tbsp coarse salt
• Beef 
• 1.5 tbsp brown sugar (optional)
• string

Here are the instruction that I found and I putted it in my own words:

Instructions:

1.  First step you do is to make sure you wash your hands. Then put on an apron. If you want to put transparent gloves for cooking you can.

2. Get all your equipment.

3. Grab a knife, get the grain of the meat, cut into 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick length and place it in a non-metallic container.

4. Do one pinch of the sugar and salt into the meat. Sprinkle it on both sides of the meat. 

5. And then hook at the meat and place it somewhere cold and dry.

6. Leave it into 3-4 days. Check the meat if it's dry everyday. Once it’s dry cut it into small pieces. And you’re done!

When we finish writing our instructions. We have to try and do it. Today, in hurumanu 3, we started our experiments. We are in groups of 3. First thing we did is we that we grab a meat. Then we sprinkle one pinch of salts and sugars, in both sides of meats. Then we tied it with a string and hang it. We have to leave it there for 3-4 days.

After 3 days:

Today, we've left the meat for 3 days already. And now we are observing what it looks like, what it smells, hears and taste.

When I first saw the result, it honestly looked like dog food. All I could smell was burn food. And it’s so hard to bite, just like when you eat a gummy, you have to pull it away. When you eat it, it’s crunchy. When you put it in your mouth for 5 sec it doesn’t taste anything, but when it stays in your mouth for like 10 sec, it will kinda taste horrible.

What we have been doing in Wananga (Research Decade)

Welcome back to my blog. Today, I'm going to tell you the things we do in our Wananga time. 

In our Wananga, we have this sheets that has some works to be done, then we write our name if we finish those task. We are doing this for the rest of the term. 

So far, I've been reading epic and did some pobble, but I'm really focused on our research decade.

Research decade is where we search some interesting facts about event, person, disaster, invention, fashion, music in 1900's to 2020. 

I did 2020 which is about "Corona virus". I've research some facts about coronavirus, and it does take time to finish. But luckily I've finished it.

Writing (Movie Trailer)

Hey everyone!

Welcome back to my blog. Today' blog is going to be another writing. The last writing that I post is about a blockbuster movie. And today is going to be about a Movie trailer.

I watch some examples movie trailer. Then I after I watched it. I thought for a while about what I'm going to do. I put my ideas together and I made it!

In our movie trailer that we made, it must include:

• Title, actors, directors
• Which film studio is making it
• Release date 
• Clips of what happens in the movie without giving the plot away. 

And the video tools that I use to make this us Imovie. I really love editing especially a video. I edited it on my phone and then I sent it in my Chromebook. 

It wasn't hard for me since I always edit videos and photos. And it was also fun to make. It was kinda blurry so I apologise.
