Skittles Colours (Science)

Kumusta,

Today is an another blog during Science. Our experiments for today is about Skittles. We'll be putting the Skittles in the water and observe on what's gonna happened.

Aim: I want to find out what happens when you put Skittles in water.

Method:

Equipment:

  • 8 Skittles
  • Warm water
  • 1 Petri dish
  • 1 beaker
  • Paper towel

Instructions:

  1. Get your equipment ready.
  2. Put the Skittles into the Petri Dish.
  3. Spread them out around the sides.
  4. Before using the beaker, make sure to clean it.
  5. Put a warm water in the beaker.
  6. Gently pour the water in the middle of the petri dish.
  7. Observe what happens.

Result:

Before:

After:

After pouring the warm water inside the petri dish with the skittles, the colours in the Skittles started to fade and it starts to spread with the water which makes a pattern with these colours. Although the food colours didn't mix, the reason for this is because every food colour has a similar measure of sugar that's dissolve from each skittle.

Thank you for reading my blog, I'll see you all next time, goodbye!

P.E

Kia Ora everyone,

Today I will be talking  about PE that is on every Wednesday and Thursday. I've learnt many skills and really enjoyed it.

Fitness:
For the first week, we did fitness. We were doing exercises and stretches. We did push up, burpees and alot of running. We also tried doing the beep test. Beep test is when you have to run when you hear the beep and you must make it to the line, the beep gets faster and faster, if you don't make it in to the line, you're out, or if you get tired and you can't run anymore, you're also out. I don't think I did pretty well on the beep test because I got tired easily.

Football:
The second week we did Football for 2 weeks. I honestly have no experience in playing football so I had no idea how to play it. First thing we did was getting into pairs and did the passing. We also played a game, when we had to verse other teams. For me, it was a little hard for me to keep track of the soccer ball in the middle of the game.

Hockey:
We also had 2 weeks of playing this sport. I've been playing hockey since I was in year 6, I know most of the rules so I was able to play it properly. Among the sports we've played, I really enjoyed this one. I'm working on passing the hockey ball across the field instead of passing it in the middle of the field where everyone goes for it.

Volleyball:
We had volleyball last week and this week. I'm currently working on setting the ball instead of bumping it all the time. But I think I did good when serving the ball.

I'm looking forward for netball next week.

Thank you for taking time to read my blog, that's all for now, goodbye!

Global Warming

Hey,

Last week, we had to read a short text of information about the topic 'Earth Day 2021: Restore our earth'. After reading them, we had to answer some questions about the text. There are some questions that I haven't answered yet, so I'll be sharing the ones I've answered.

Which word means the same as ‘restore’?

A: Repair

30%

The amount of earth that is covered in the forest.

Around 190

The number of countries that have signed the Paris agreement.

80%

The amount of land-based animals that live in the forest

500

The  number of years that it takes for plastic to decompose.

Find and copy a phrase from the text which shows that there has been a rapid increase in greenhouse gas emissions.

A: “There has been a recorded rise in global surface temperatures of 1.2 Celsius.”

What size are microplastics?

It’s smaller than 5mm

Explain what is meant by the term “Legally binding pledge”?

A: The word pledge means promise, but when used in this term, it means contract. A legally binding contract between something with consideration.

Summarise why it is important to restore our earth in 25 words or fewer.

A: Personally, It is important to restore our earth to keep a healthy and safe place for everyone to live in. To be able to live in a peaceful world.

Thank you for reading my blog, those are some of the information's I could answer for now. Have a great day.

Edible Slime (Science)

Kia Ora,

It will be another blog about our new experiment for this week, which is making a edible slime.

Aim: I want to find out how to make edible slime.

Research:

Method:

Equipment:

  • 7 marshmallow

  • 2 teaspoon Olive Oil

  • 2 teaspoon Sugar icing

  • 1 cup of Cornstarch

  • 1 Bowl

  • 1 Teaspoon / spoon

  • 1 Cup

Instructions:

  1. Get all of the equipment ready.

  2. Open the marshmallow packet.

  3. Put 7 of marshmallows inside the bowl

  4. Put the bowl inside the microwave for 40 seconds.

  5. Add 2 teaspoons of olive oil inside the bowl to make the slime fluffy. (Makes the slime less sticky).

  6. Start mixing them with a spoon.

  7. Add a 1 cup of cornstarch.

  8. Start mixing them with a spoon.

  9. Add 2 teaspoons of sugar icing to make the marshmallow slime sweeter.

Result:

The result wasn't bad but it was really sticky which was hard to mix.

Thank you for reading my blog, I hope you enjoy and I'll see you on my next post, goodbye.

Gummy Bear Osmosis (Science)

Kamusta everyone,

For today's blog I will be sharing you our gummy bear experiments. We went through everything we need to know before doing this experiment, the methods which is the equipment and instructions.

Aim:

I want to find out what happens when gummy bears are put in liquids.

Method:

Equipment:

  • Salt water (Sodium Chloride)
  • Normal water
  • Sugar water (Sucrose)
  • Gummy Bears
  • 2x Petri dishes
  • Marker pen
  • Electronic scales
Instructions:
  1. Get your equipment
  2. Wear your safety glasses
  3. With a marker pen, write your name and the conditions (dry, water, salt water, sugar water) and the weight of gummy bear
  4. Do the experiment
-Result-

Before:

After:

Dry GummySugar GummyWater GummySalty Gummy
Initial Weight(g):2.45g2.21g2.23g2.22g
Final Weight(g):2.43g5.23g7.45g4.07g
Difference:.2g -gain 3.02ggain 5.22ggain 1.85g

It thicken it size and volume since the water is entering. The gummy bear has little holes inside. There is a water molecules which is smaller, and sugar/salt molecules are bigger. There are much more water molecules (small) that could get inside the hole and less than sugar/salt molecules that could get in because of its size, that's why the water gummy bear is bigger than before.

Thank you for reading my blog, I hope you learnt something new and I'll see you on my next post, goodbye :>

Samoa Language Week

Talofa Lava everyone,

As you all know, it's Samoan Language week. During Wananga, we were given a choice on what to do, so I decided to research some simple words for starters to learn Samoan language. I made a poster on Canva on what I learnt. Greetings, simple phrases, colours, animals, etc. Here is my poster:

Thank you for reading my blog, I hope you learnt something new today. I'll see you all next time, goodbye.

Reflection of Art

Kia ora,

Today I will be talking about what we have been doing during art. We have done tons of things including stop motion, scenario, flip book and Manaakitanga. Last week, we were assigned to make a minion using clay.

Flip books: The flip book I was doing was about a broken girl, then she ends up changing herself, she was a confident woman. For me, the hard part is trying to make it look the same in each page, although it was fun. It took me for about 1 week to be able to finish it.

Scenario Choice: We were told to pick 1 scenarios, me and Rheanne were working together. The scenario was about: Alin life forms, one life form from Jupiter, one life form from Mars, find each other on an abandoned planet Zoig. They need to find safe water to drink, build shelter and find food, by learning to communicate. We tried drawing the characters and the setting where the story takes place.

Stop Motion: I was making a minion but not the actual colour of a minion. I was given a grey clay so I had to make it work. I tried shaping the body and the face first, and then made sure it can stand, then I added the details (Eyes, dress, hands, etc) and so on.

Manaakitanga: We had to do the manaakitanga and research about the meaning of it. There was supposed to be atleast 5 information about what it means. I also had to do it with Rheanne using the same google drawing.

Thank you for reading my blog, have a great day, goodbye.
