I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 7 and in 2021 I will be a year 8. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.
I will be sharing some facts about the bird called Kea. I think this will be the last time that I'll be posting about "Uncle Don knows heaps of wacky stuff" activity book. Today we had to read page 23-28. I used canva to create this poster that I made. This topic was interesting to I tried to find as much information as I can. Here's the poster:
Thank you for reading my blog, I hope you learnt something new, goodbye:))
Today, we are doing another experiment for science and it's going to be about hot chilli. For this experiment, we're going to try hot chilli and wait for about 2 minutes after we try 3 different drinks at once, which will be milk, water and ____. We have to repeat this 3 times and to keep track of the result.
Aim: I want to find out the best way to cool down your tongue after eating hot chilli.
Research: We had to find 3 different types of videos about Hot chilli, funny, science and experiment.
Funny
Science
Experiment:
Method:
Equipment:
Hot chilli sauce
Popsicle sticks
Drinks - Soda, water, milk
Timer
Instructions:
Get your equipment ready.
Get a drop of hot sauce on your Popsicle stick.
Lick the hot chilli sauce.
Start the timer.
After 2 minutes, drink your drink.
After 5 minutes, how hot is your mouth?
Repeat the experiment but with a different drink.
Results:
The first chilli I did was without water. I only took a bit and it was still spicy. At first it was burning in my tongue, I rate the burning sensation an 8 but then after 2 minutes, it wasn't that spicy anymore, the spiciness dropped down to 4.
The second chilli I did was without water, again. I took the same amount of hot chilli but this time I rate the burning sensation an 7.5, after 2 minutes it only dropped down to 6 because my lips was also burning with my tongue because of the hot chilli.
The third chilli I tried was without coke. It was still spicy, at first the burning sensation was an 8.5 and after waiting for 2 minutes and took a sip of the coke, it then dropped down to 7 but I feel like the coke wasn't effective it got worse a bit. But this time it feels like there's a sting in my tongue, my lips was still burning.
The last chilli I tried was without milk. Honestly, it's spicier than before when I tried it the burning sensation was about 9 and after 2 minutes I rate is as 7, for me the milk did work.
The water works the most, then milk and lastly coke.
Discussion:
Why does chilli burn in your mouth?
A chilli has a compound that is called Capsaicin and it's actually an alkaline. The capsaicin is the reason why we feel this hot sensation in our mouth when we eat chilli.
Why did the milk reduce the burn?
Since the hot chilli has a capsaicin which is fat-suloble, and a milk has milk fat in it, it washes the burning sensation in your milk.
Thank you for taking your time to read my blog, I hope you learnt something new, have a great day, goodbye:))
For today's blog I will be sharing some information and facts about these different types of animals. We had to read the article "Uncle Don knows heaps of wacky stuff" activity book, in page 17-22. I found lots of animals that is interesting, but these are the one that got my attention, giant weta, peka-peka, stoats, and ruru. I found tons of information that I didn't know.
That's all for now, I hope you learnt something new, goodbye:))
We are now back at school. During art, we had to listen to a story book that talks about Henri Rousseau. Henri Rousseau is a French painter. While listening to the story book, we had to take notes, facts that is in the book/video.
This is the notes I wrote that I currently have (not finish yet).
Henri Rousseau is a toll collector, 40 years old that wants to be an artist.
He loves nature (foliage).
He has to teach himself since he cant afford an art lesson.
After hearing about the art exhibition, his canvas are displayed on the place the show is held.
He walked around to gather some ideas, and ends up in world's fair.
While he was painting, a tiger crawled in.
Every year he attends the art exhibition, but art experts always makes fun of him.
He spends hours painting on cemetery, he paints and learns.
A gardener sneaks him into the hothouse, and he goes in.
Words I didn't understand:
frond
tenderly
banquet
frolic
This is one of Henri Rousseau's art works that I admire. This painting is very realistic and has lots of details in it. It is called "The Equatorial Jungle" that is created in 1909.
That is all for today, thank you for reading my blog, goodbye:))
Today we had to read an article, "Uncle Don knows heaps of wacky stuff" activity books, in page 12-16. There are different animals that we had to research about. I talked about Trout, Kiwi burrows and crayfish. I used canva to make this poster.
These information was interesting, I didn't know these facts until I researched about it.
That's all for now, I hope you learnt something new, goodbye:))
Yesterday and today we had to read this article called "Uncle Don knows heaps of wacky stuff" activity books. The topic that I wanted to research was about wetlands.
I researched some information about wetlands and made a bulletpoints for every facts I found. I used the website called Vengage to make this, I wasn't fully done since I have to add more information. But this is what I've done so far:
I didn't know half of these information till I researched about it. It's quit interesting.
Thank you for reading this blog, I hope you learn something new, goodbye:))
Last week, we've been focusing about Flora and Fauna. We did a note taking, we found out our NZ native species quiz and a book to read from page 4-7. In this book there are different facts, and we get to choose which topic we want to research. For mine I am researching about Eels in New Zealand, and about the Octopi(octopus) changing colours. I just found it interesting that's why I picked these.
Thank you for reading, I hope you learnt something new. Goodbye:))
